HONDA ACTIVA 5G TEST RIDE & REVIEW

CLASSY STYLING

Actually, Honda Activa 5G has got mainly cosmetic changes compared to the 4g version. The front consists of a new LED Headlamp and position lamp that looks like a crown. The rubber elements on the front apron get a tweaked shape which is eye-catching. Inside section, it looks a lot slimmer with no sticker and graphics works at all except HET logo and 3D emblem.

There are chrome elements in front and back which makes it more classy rather than funky. The single colour scheme of the scooter gives a classic and mature appeal. Build quality of metal body, switchgear and paint are top notch. There are 8 colours options available in this model which is really great for the customer.

REFINED & DECENT POWER MILL

Honda Activa 5G is powered by a 109cc, air-cooled, four-stroke mill produces peak power of 8.1PS @ 7,000rpm and a peak torque of 9Nm @ 5,500rpm. Honda Eco Technology (HET) is now present in all Honda motorcycles and scooters as this technology reduces fuel consumption, lowers friction and the weight of engine components. Power delivery at low revs is linear in nature and responds quick enough according to the throttle inputs. The engine is coupled to V Matic (Variomatic) or Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) which does gear changing matters.

Now in refinement section engine is almost refined and silent. Honda Activa 5g mileage figures are in between 59-63km/l in city conditions and around extra 5kms in highways. In order to wakeup the engine self and kick start options are available. Power to weight ratio is precisely 74.3PS/ton which for scooters is considered to be fair.

SUSPENSION SYSTEM NOT UPTO THE MARK

Both front and rear section feature spring loaded hydraulic type with underbone chassis. Telescopic forks are really missing upfront which is vital to bring in extra comfort and control to the handling. As a result, Activa 5G get unsettled and uncomfortable in worst road conditions. Ergonomics for the rider is having upright nature while for the pillion there is enough space behind. Kerb weight of scooter is 109kgs which makes it tilt slightly towards heavier side.

Saddle size is precise, soft and plough in nature. The omission of a disc brake is disappointing and feedback from a set of 130mm drum brakes is not convincing but CBS (Combined Braking System) does settle matters overall. Tubeless tyres do relieve you from puncture issues as a scooter can be ridden even after puncture for some time.

ESSENTIAL FEATURES AVAILABLE

CBS braking system with an equaliser, digital-analogue instrument console with eco speed indicator, LED headlamp & position lamp, tubeless tyres are the most noteworthy ones among the lot. Along with this 4-in-1 lock with seat opening switch, mobile charging socket with 18l under seat storage, front and rear hook along with some cosmetic features completes the features package.

HONDA ACTIVA 5G VERDICT

This one has got lots of new features but not the vital and necessary ones. The absence of disc brake and telescopic forks up front is a major setback. While in rest of the sections like performance, styling, build styling etc it does score well enough. So Honda Activa 5G mileage figures is really cynosure for commuters but overall as a fifth version scooter it is not up to the mark.
