HONDA CLIQ TEST RIDE & REVIEW

DIFFERENT FROM CONVENTIONAL DESIGN

The is an out and out scooter meant specifically for city rides and differs from conventional design. The front section of the scooter has a large angular headlamp present on the apron. Handlebars are like that of a motorcycle handle and another unique thing here is the instrument cluster which is situated on the front apron instead of the handlebar. Rear consist of relatively small tail lamp indicator set, conventional grab rail and additional load carrier with a lot of vacant space on both sides.

The dual tone colour scheme of the scooter and side profile graphics gives a distinctive appeal. The build quality of fibre, switchgear and paint are up to the mark. Overall Cliq is smaller in all dimensions and has neat lines and edges. There are 4 colours options available in this model to opt from.

AN ALL ROUNDER POWER MILL

Honda Cliq 110 shares the same 109cc, fan cooled, four stroke mill found on Honda Activa and Dio which produces peak power of 8.1PS @ 7,000rpm and a peak torque of 8.94Nm @ 5,500rpm. Honda Eco Technology (HET) is now present in all Honda motorcycles and scooters as this technology reduces fuel consumption, lowers friction and the weight of engine components. Power delivery at low revs is linear in nature and responds quick enough according to the throttle inputs. The engine is coupled to V Matic (Variomatic) or Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) which does gear changing matters.

Now in refinement section engine is almost refined and silent. It returns about 55-60km/l in city conditions and around extra 5kms in highways. In order to wakeup the engine self and kick start options are available. Power to weight ratio is precisely 79.4PS/ton which for scooters is considered to be fair.

STIFF SUSPENSION SETUP

Both front and rear section feature spring-loaded hydraulic type with underbone chassis. Telescopic forks are really missing upfront which is vital to bring in extra comfort and control to the handling. As a result, Cliq gets unsettled in worst road conditions and overall suspension setup is stiff in nature. So road shocks are directly transmitted straight up to your back. Ergonomics for the rider is having upright nature while for the pillion there is enough space behind. Motorcycle handlebar is set low and interferes your knee movement every time you want to make sharp turns.

Wider floorboard, long and wider saddle does bring extra comfort to the ergonomics side. Feedback from a set of 130mm drum brakes is not convincing but CBS (Combined Braking System) does settle matters overall. Block Pattern tubeless tyres do handle all sorts of roads and relieve you from puncture issues as a scooter can be ridden even after puncture for some time.

ESSENTIAL FEATURES AVAILABLE

CBS braking system with an equaliser, maintenance free battery, self-start, viscous air filter, under seat storage with mobile charging socket, block pattern tubeless tyres, AHO, long & wider seats, and additional carrier completes the features package.

HONDA CLIQ VERDICT

Honda Cliq manages to do what a strict city dweller hopes to do. It comes with a good set of features, decent performance and above average build and looks. Do not set high expectations for these sort of scooters as they come on a tight budget. So my verdict will be hands up symbol.
