HONDA DREAM YUGA TEST RIDE & REVIEW
Certainly, an attractive aspect of the Honda Dream Yuga 2018 is the bigger graphics and 3D emblem on the tank. Blacked out engine and alloy wheels are another USP in the styling department. The front section features angular headlamp along with trendy visor while rear features simplistic tail light along with body coloured grab rail. Chrome plated muffler along with dazzling silencer protector brings more spice to the design. While moving on to build quality everything is fine and nothing is too bad nor too good. Instrument console houses a stylish analogue speedometer and fuel-gauge, both of which are large and readable on the move. Due to this everything has a premium feel in this motorcycle and is surely above expectations.
ENGINE IS ALL ABOUT REFINEMENT AND MILEAGE
Honda Dream Yuga 2018 features the same 109.19cc air cooled, 4 stroke, BS-IV with HET technology power mill found on younger siblings Dream Neo and CD Dream 110. This engine found among Dream series is the ultimate king and the main driving factor. Power mill outputs 8.4PS of peak power @ 7,500rpm and peak torque of 9.09Nm @ 5,000rpm. We can observe from the power figures that there is enough low-end torque for quick initial pickup and power in both mid and high rev range.
The overall power delivery is linear in nature which is apt for pure commuters. Refinement and smoothness of engine are another superb and does matters silently. Above all engine power is transmitted to wheels via smooth shifting 4 speed all up shift gearbox. Gear ratios are very short in order to convert it as a perfect mould for city rides. Fuel efficiency is the biggest USP of these bikes and delivers around 65-70km/l approximately.
CLEAR CITY DWELLER
Straight to the matter. Kerb weight is around 109kgs with diamond type single tube chassis holding all those. Manoeuvering around city traffic is nice and even in undulated roads with ease and control. Similarly, it also does a few highway duties but is surely not a comfort zone for Dream Yuga. There are hardly any noticeable vibrations at all around footpegs and handlebar which is a great achievement with this sort of chassis. Moreover, ergonomics is strictly upright with wide handlebars and footpegs placed in the middle.
Seats are large enough for both rider and pillion and offer enough cushion. Thigh support offered by tank scoop offers grip to thighs and feels more confident while riding. While in the braking department, there is no disc option for the front section at all which brings braking performance down altogether. Bite and feel from the set of 130mm drum brakes lacks confidence and safety. However, the set of low rolling resistance tubeless tyres comes to rescue and does what it can do best while also resolving puncture issues.
A disc brake as an option is missing which is a disappointing thing and presence of engine kill switch might also be handy. As a result, adjustable 5 steps rear suspension is much needed for Indian roads where undulations and bumps are very common. In contrast, puncture issues will get resolved by low rolling resistance tubeless tyres that aids in increasing fuel efficiency.
HONDA DREAM YUGA 2018 VERDICT
Clearly the Honda Dream Yuga 2018 is the standout model in the Honda Dream series and so deserves to be the leader of the pack. This one tick in all boxes except one the braking department. In other words, the absence of disc brake as an option is the only setback I can highlight on this Dream series model nothing else.
- All round performing engine
- Superior mileage
- Tubeless tyres
- No disc brake even as option
