VESPA ZX TEST RIDE & REVIEW
CLASSIC AND BASIC
The front section features classic round headlights with the silver casing and simply blends well with chrome finished round mirrors and levers. It has an old-school classic and retro looks from the past which makes it stand out from the rest. The front indicator lights also have a unique design along with V-shaped grill. Now coming onto the side profile view pillion seat is a bit raised compared to rider seats.
The 5 spoke blacked alloy wheels adds a premium feel to the scooter. The presence of grab rail is a major bonus here and unique rear tail light and indicator light design. Talking about the build quality of paint, plastic, switchgear etc everything is top notch and has premium touch everywhere. We were not able to find any issues whatsoever with the design as well as build quality. There are 4+ colour options ranging from dark to bright to fit all sorts of customer tastes.
REFINED AND ROBUST ENGINE
The Vespa VXL 125 comes with four-stroke, air-cooled and carburettor-fed engines, that has three-valve heads. Along with that cylinder head is made of aluminium and additional technologies like overhead cam, roller rocker arm, map sensing and variable spark timing management are also embedded. This engine pumps out 11.6PS of peak power @ 7,000rpm and peak torque of 10.9Nm @ 5,000rpm.
Power delivery is having strong appeal even from the start itself and it shows this grunt till the high rpm range. This 125cc unit has high levels of refinement and is also butter smooth. Most notable about this engine is the performance it offers in the high rev range as it is far more superior compared to other Indian competitors. CVT transmission system is already a successful technology and blends with this power unit superbly. Mileage derived from this mill is around 47-52km/l.
FIRM AND RIGID HANDLER
The monocoque steel frame does the job of holding together along with the aircraft derived single side arm front suspension with anti-dive characteristics in the front and rear suspension boast dual-effect hydraulic shock absorbers. As a result suspension setup is firm and rigid but neither too hard nor too soft even with a pillion on board. The Vespa VXL 125 comes with Maxxis tubeless tyres that grip the road better and allows easy manoeuvring.
There are specific mechanisms for enhanced stability and this includes link spring mechanism between engine and frame which provide amazing balance by balancing the mechanical trail and the stabilizing torque which offers low-speed balance. Large and plush rider friendly seats provide supreme comfort and space for a smooth ride even in cities. The 200mm ventilated front disc brakes, coupled with 140mm drum brakes at the rear and CBS all combine together to work well to provide superior braking performance.
The ZX has a semi-digital instrument console with analogue speedometers, 5 spoke alloy wheels, broader tubeless tyres, visor, rear grab rail, CBS and perimeter kit and helmets as accessories. The storage space under the handlebars and the rider seat is more than enough to accommodate essentials.
VESPA ZX VERDICT
The price tag is the only thing that will surely go against the likes of customers. Everything else is good enough to take it to the top of the charts. There are a lot of models available from competing companies at a much cheaper price. So it all depends on customer decision nothing else.
- Good build quality
- Powerful performance
- High price tag
- Low ground clearance
