Honda started its journey in India in 1999 and now holds a coveted place among the motorcycle companies’ reason – among the top three. Earlier Honda and Hero bikes had joint ventures known by the very familiar name – Hero Honda, which was made into reality in 1984 and parted ways in 2010 and ended technological support to Hero until 2014. Now both companies are in their quest to reach the number one position, and the fight continues. Now Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. (HMSI) is a 100% subsidiary of Honda Motor Company Ltd., Japan, and the list of all Honda new bikes & motorcycles now exceeds 20+ variants in India.
Commencing its Indian two-wheeler operations in May 2001, Honda has grown to become India’s second-largest two-wheeler manufacturing company with over 55 million happy customers. Honda started production from its 1st plant in Manesar, Haryana. Then in 2011, Honda expanded to 2nd plant in Tapukara in District Alwar (Rajasthan). After that, Honda inaugurated its next plant in Narsapura in Karnataka and the final one in Vithalapur (Gujarat).
HMSI portfolio consists of premium models, which are CKD/ CBU. They are Honda CB500X, Honda CBR650R, Honda CB650R, Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade, Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP, Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sports and Honda Goldwing Tour. Honda CB300R, Honda CB300F, Honda H’ness CB350 and Honda CB350 RS are also other premium models, but these are manufactured in India. All the models mentioned above are sold in ‘BigWing’ (exclusive premium motorcycle business) showrooms across India. Other than this, there are 12 more models sold in India under HMSI. Honda also caters to millions of customers across urban and rural India through its extensive sales and service network of over 6000 touchpoints through ‘RedWing’ network expansion.
