Suzuki Motorcycle India Private Limited (SMIPL), a subsidiary of Suzuki Motor Corporation, Japan, manufactures and sells motorcycles and scooters in India. Initially entering the Indian market in 1982 via a joint venture with TVS Motor Company to produce models like the Suzuki AX-100, Suzuki began operating independently in 2006 by establishing SMIPL and a manufacturing plant in Gurugram, Haryana, with an annual capacity of 1.3 million units.

Suzuki’s entry into the Indian two-wheeler market began in 1982 with a joint venture with TVS Motor Company, launching the IND-Suzuki AX-100, popular for its simplicity and fuel efficiency. The collaboration ended in 2001, and Suzuki returned independently as SMIPL in 2006.

Manufacturing Facilities
Suzuki Motorcycle India’s central manufacturing plant is located in Gurugram, Haryana, with an annual capacity of approximately 540,000 units. To meet growing demand, Suzuki is building a new facility in Kharkhoda, Haryana, with an investment of around ₹1,200 crore.
Set to open in 2027, the plant will initially have a capacity of 750,000 units per year. It will use lean manufacturing, automation, and energy-efficient practices to support Suzuki’s global carbon neutrality goals.
Market Position and Achievements
Suzuki Motorcycle India has a strong presence in both domestic and export markets. The brand is known for fuel-efficient commuter bikes and premium motorcycles. It exports to Latin America, Japan, and Europe. In June 2025, Suzuki sold over 95,000 units, showing steady demand and wider market acceptance.
The company continues to innovate with new models, such as the OBD-2B-compliant GSX-8R and V-Strom 800DE, thereby strengthening its position in the premium segment. Suzuki’s sales growth and production milestones highlight its competitiveness in the Indian two-wheeler market.
Future Plans
